Creating my film, I wanted to use music to set the tone for my image slide show, text to state the facts behind prostitution and poetry read over the top to tell the story of the Hillfields prostitutes.
After hours of editing, I was unsure if it worked, so I seeked the advice of my tutor. He brought to light the music and text drew attention away from the most powerful components of the film; the images and poetry. Looking at the photofilm with fresh eyes, I began to see I was over complicating my approach to editing, and went back to the drawing board scrapping my first video. For the next video I will draw inspiration from Duck-rabbit’s productions as they seem to have the winning formula.
